Have you ever felt like you’re running in circles with your health? Visiting chiropractors, massage therapists, doctors, and physical therapists, yet that nagging pain or persistent health issue won’t resolve? You’re not alone, and there might be a more profound story your body is trying to tell.
Think about the last time you felt nervous or angry. Remember that knot in your stomach? The racing heart? The rising blood pressure? Our bodies speak to us through these physical manifestations of our emotions. But what happens when we push these feelings down and choose to suppress rather than express them?
The Body Knows
Here’s a truth that’s often overlooked in traditional medicine: our bodies hold onto unresolved emotions and past trauma. When we don’t speak our truth or suppress our feelings, it doesn’t just affect us emotionally – it manifests physically. This might explain why sometimes conventional medical approaches can’t provide the answers we’re seeking.
A Story of Transformation
Let me introduce you to my friend and long-time client, Mathew Blades. Our paths first crossed in 2010 at a local gym when he expressed interest in trying Ashiatsu – a unique massage technique where I work with my feet. What started as a single session bloomed into a years-long journey of healing and growth. Over the years, our work together has spanned massage therapy, private yoga sessions, and emotional release work. Mathew has invited me to share wellness insights on his radio shows at MIX 96.9 and iHeart Radio, and we’ve even collaborated on transformative projects like Grief Relief Retreats.
For 27 years, Mathew lived what many would consider a dream life as a successful radio host. But beneath the surface, he was battling:
- Chronic pain
- Anxiety
- Shingles
- Panic attacks
- Severe depression
By the end of 2021, he reached a critical crossroads. His body and mind were sending clear signals that something needed to change. He made the brave decision to step away from his radio show and check into a holistic mental and spiritual health retreat, where he began working on what he calls his “Trauma Trilogy.”
The Porter Method Session: A Look Inside
In 2025, Mathew decided to take his healing journey public through his “Learn From People Who Lived It” Podcast, allowing us to film his experience with The Porter Method. This comprehensive approach combines multiple modalities, drawing from my 24 years of massage therapy and 20 years of yoga expertise. During our session, we uncovered:
- Emotional Patterns
- How feelings of failure, indecisiveness, and pride manifested in his shoulder pain
- The connection between emotional suppression and physical tension
- Physical Release
- Restorative yoga poses specifically targeting the hips and psoas – our body’s “emotional junk drawer”
- Thoracic outlet works to release deeply held stress patterns
- Gentle, supported poses that allow for more profound release than active practices
- Energy Integration
- Reiki and cranial sacral work to help the body process and integrate changes
- Creating a safe space for emotional and physical healing
Why This Approach Works
The Porter Method is unique because it addresses both the physical manifestation and the emotional root cause of pain. By combining restorative yoga, emotional release work, and energy healing, we create a comprehensive pathway for the body to release old patterns and find new balance.

The Power of Distance Healing
While the Porter Method might seem like it requires in-person interaction, here’s something remarkable: all elements of this transformative work can be done virtually. I can connect with and support clients worldwide through energy work and proximal healing, achieving the same powerful results as in-person sessions. While the mechanics of distance healing deserve a deeper discussion for another time, my virtual clients consistently report the same profound transformations as those I see in person.
